Just Got My New Amps Today... They Are So Tiny!

Can’t believe how small they are! Anyone else had a surprise with their gear size?

The flooring has about 5 inch wide planks. The smaller amp measures 10.15 x 5.625. I’m pretty sure I’d get banned for posting pics like that, LOL.

Class D is the best choice!

These amps are replacing a Hifonics BRX2000.1d sub amp and a Hifonics BRX640.4 four-channel amp. They might have slightly more output than those.

@Tristan
I used to have the CT .80 but just sold it. Switched to Class D for my four-channel and couldn’t be happier. I’m using Recoil class 4, pushing 2 to 3k on four channels. Just got a new sub amp but that’s a different topic.

Had a CT sounds amp back when they were audio technix. Paid about $400 for a 3k Class D amp. With a big upgrade on my battery, that thing had two sundown subs trying to jump out of the box. Really solid brand!

I hear you! I’ve been out of the stereo game for a long time… I was around when Hifonics, Orion, PPI, and MB Quart were the best you could get, and if you had a 900 watt amp, you were the man. Now, amps are super tiny. I have two massive HIPPOXL122R subs that weigh 70lbs each. The magnets are huge. When my guy pulled out the two amps, one for each sub, he said they were 2000 watts each but were the size of a pop tart box. I thought he was joking. But I trusted him and after a full install, I was blown away. A year later, and I’m still thrilled with the setup!

@Morgan
I remember a stereo installer had an S-10 with a camper top that opened into the cab, loaded with six 12s and those long PPI amps. A friend had one of those old cheater amps that switched modes between high current and high power. People loved those huge Audiobahn Chrome Amps back when the Audiobahn Aluminum Subs were popular. I went with the Eclipse Titanium, not the Pro version, and had some Eclipse Aluminum’s before I got my 15.

@Tristan
Hahaha Audiobahn… they looked good but that’s it. PPI was the best back in the day. Only the rich kids had PPI. My first subs were 2 Bumper 12s, LOL.

If that’s a 2x1 wood floor, those amps are pocket size.

The floor planks are around 5 inches wide in the picture.

That little amp looks similar to a Dual amp I bought for my CJ 7 a while back. It was inexpensive in case it got wet or stolen but surprisingly worked great! I wonder if they are using the same board?

I run a DB Atom 900.2 amp and honestly, I have no clue how they improved Class D so much to make this lunchbox-sized amp push almost 2kWRMS for my mids.

That amp is about the same size as the four-channel one I have in my photo.

@Tristan
I’m starting to get into repairing these too. I know smaller amps can be harder to fix, but they usually have fewer, more efficient parts, so I’m hopeful, haha.

I have an old amp shoved in a box that blew a transistor or mosfet or something. I think I might go look for it real quick. Cheap head unit cost me an amp.
