Hello everyone, I’m new to car audio and subwoofers, but my brother gave me his old system, which I installed and upgraded the lines and most recently the subs. I put in two 12" Skar Audio SDR subs and power them with a Planet Audio 1500 watt max amplifier that I think puts out 1200 watts rms on 2 ohms. Could it crack, break, or even hurt my windows? (Please don’t mind that the wiring is a mess; I made sure nothing can or will touch it.) I would also appreciate any tips on how to wire better. Thank you all ahead of time!
You are absolutely safe. They might shake a little, but they won’t get broken. Planet Audio is also known for lying about how much power their amplifiers put out.
It is safe to use windows and glass. That set-up will only break glass if you throw it through the window.
It might not break the glass, but I’ve blown the glue off of my windshield before. Had to have the seal changed. It rained while I was listening to music, and water would get in every time the glass moved.
Honestly get a skar rp1200 in there for them, that Planet Audio iirc has a 30 amp fuse on the side and will probably do 400rms on its best day
Getting a good pair of wire cutters or strippers will help clean up the wiring. I use this Also some heat seal. This is great for speaker wire. For electric and ground wires, you’ll need a bigger package of heat shrink. You can get it from Sky High Car Audio, Down4Sound, and a lot of other online audio stores. Wire ferrules are a good way to clean the wires that go into the amp. You don’t have to push or twist the wires or worry about any of them meeting and shorting out. It’s easy to use these for LOC wire inputs, speaker wire inputs for a multichannel amp, and remote wires. I hope this helps
Not with those…you’ll need quite a bit more sub to cause damage
Nope, not enough to do damage.
You’re fine. Those won’t break or crack glass. That’s about it. You might hear something in the cabin shake, though.
Due to my Skrill ZVX, the rear window seal on my new car began to leak water. I think there was a problem with the way it was made because I’ve never had or heard of a problem like that.
I don’t believe that. In the big picture of car music, 1200w RMS isn’t really that much. My sunroof works fine with 1500w RMS.
I was clipping like crazy before I got an oscilloscope and properly tuned everything (head unit and Amp). Clipping will destroy your gear, and when it rained hard and I played low-frequency music, it would leak a bit, but I think that was because the drain lines were clogged, which is another reason.
