Hey everyone. So I’m upgrading the speakers in my 2010 Chevy Cobalt because I’ve decided to keep it until it kicks the bucket. The 6.5” speakers in the front blew out and I swapped them out with help from a friend (they came from his upgraded head unit). It felt great having four working speakers again haha. Now I’m at a crossroads and could use some advice. I thought about replacing the rear speakers, which are covered with cloth by the manufacturer, but I’m wondering if it would actually make a difference unless I upgrade the head unit. Also, I’m curious if I could add a sub to the stock head unit (probably not, right?), but I like the stock head unit’s interface. The battery is in the trunk if that helps. Sorry for the lack of knowledge! Thanks for taking the time to read this.
You can install a sub with the stock unit, but you’ll need a line output converter to make it work.

So would it be easier to just get an aftermarket head unit instead? If so, what would be a good one for 4 speakers and a 12” subwoofer? I know specifics would be helpful, but honestly I’m not even sure what to get. My friend had a Rockford Fosgate (I hope I’m spelling that right) in his S2000 and it sounded awesome. Should I focus on a new head unit and then get 2 new 6.5” door speakers and whatever rear speakers will work? Sorry, I’m throwing a lot at you right now, and I really appreciate your help.
I’d suggest adding an amp for your front speakers next.

I’m not sure what the front speakers are rated for, to be honest. So, should I get an amp first, and then upgrade the head unit?
