I was talking here before about switching my speakers to Bose ones or adding a subwoofer. In the end, I didn’t do anything, but I still need a way to get more bass “feel” in my BMW E39. I don’t want my neighbors knowing what I’m up to with my car (the exhaust already gives them enough to think about). I just want to feel the bass more.
People have suggested self-powered subwoofers under the seats since I don’t want to mess with the trunk (it’s separated from the cabin anyway). So, do these under-seat subs actually give the bass feel I’m looking for? Any models or brands you’d recommend? I’ve seen a few but don’t really know where to start.

Yeah, they make 8-inch ones that sound really clean and loud for their size. They even have a 6-inch option if you need something smaller.
I recently installed two under-seat subs in my wife’s car. After adjusting their placement and adding soundproofing under the seats, they both sound and feel amazing. I also upgraded her battery to an AGM, ran zero-gauge power and ground wires, and did a big 3 upgrade with distribution blocks—just in case she decides to upgrade her system later.
The hardest part was getting rid of interior buzzing, but sound deadening really helped with that.
