Step 1. Replace the factory connectors (NEVER CUT FACTORY HARNESS). Then, find the correct wiring harness adapter.

There is no accessory power in the GMC/CHEVY truck harness of this generation its turned on by DATA. To fix it now, wire your own accessory from the drivers side end of dash…

OR Solder that connector back on and get the appropriate 70-2003 harness and again wire your own accessory from drivers side dash if you don’t want to pay for the expensive class 2 data harness.

Oh no you didn’t splice the main harness instead of spending $12 on a wiring harness at Walmart. Oh buddy you’re fucked.

I’m not confident that all of your factory wires are visible, which could be very problematic. I wish you the best of luck.

Look guys, I bought the truck with the stereo not working, wires were like this with tape over them. Thought if I was going to get stereo working I’d upgrade in the process. Everything is still fine I’m simply looking for the best solution here to get my new harness for the pioneer stereo connected to these wires. If someone could link me the adapter that I need that’d be great

You use a harness adapter, you don’t cut the factory one off. The harness adapter wires up to the wiring on the head unit then it just plugs into the vehicles harness. Cutting it off like that makes more work and is a garbage way of installing.

If you don’t have a multi meter or test light you need to get one, those factor wires there is 2 gray and 2 orange wires one of the gray is the illumination dimmer wire and one of the orange is 12v constant. If you don’t have the factory harness you will need to get an accessory under the dash tap one of orange from the ignition switch with a fuse. Here is the speaker color codes

Left Front Speaker Wire (+): Tan Left Front Speaker Wire (-): Gray Right Front Speaker Wire (+): Light Green Right Front Speaker Wire (-): Dark Green Left Rear Speaker Wire (+): Brown Left Rear Speaker Wire (-): Yellow Right Rear Speaker Wire (+): Dark Blue Right Rear Speaker Wire (-): Light Blue

You will need a multimeter that can measure DC voltage and ohms/continuity. Test every wire to ground for voltage with the key on and then off.then test each wire to ground with continuity to find a valid ground, separate all wires that had 12v or the same potential to ground, Then, test all wires against each other for resistance. Wire 1 to 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7; then 2 to 3, 4, 5, etc.; then 3 to 4, 5, 6, etc., and so on. Once you have found pairs that you think connect to the speakers (2-5 ohms of resistance), get a 1.5 V battery or a 9 V battery and tap the two wires to it and see if you hear a thump in one of the speakers. Once you have found all the speakers, run two wires to the power and ground of the cigarette lighter/power port. And you have most of what you need for the radio. You might need to tap into the fuse box for constant power or switched power, depending on how the power port works.
