How to wire subs to my amp? Need some help

I have two Kenwood Excelon KFC-XW1200F 12" subs. Each is a single voice coil with one set of +- terminals. I need to wire them to a 4 ohm load.

Amp: Rockford Fosgate R1200-1D Prime 1,200 Watt Class-D Mono Amplifier. It pushes 400 watts at 4 ohms, 800 watts at 2 ohms, and 1200 watts at 1 ohm. It has 1 unbridgeable channel and 2 sets of +- terminals.

From what I understand, I should wire the subs in parallel, connecting the +- terminals together and then running one set of +- wires from one sub to the amp. This should make the subs see 4 ohms, and the amp will see 2 ohms. Does that sound right?

Also, will 800 watts at 2 ohms cause each sub to get 400 watts?

I hope this is posted correctly, any help would be appreciated!

Just to double-check – since there are two sets of terminals (2pos/2neg) on the amp, does it matter which set I use?

No, it doesn’t matter. The terminals are usually linked inside the amp. Just connect everything, and you’re good to go.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I might have more questions later!

Yeah, wire them in parallel, and your amp will handle the 2 ohm load just fine.
