How can I stop rattles and squeaks in my car's interior?

I’m trying to reduce road noise inside my vehicle, especially the rattles and squeaks coming from the trim panels, mainly in the rear and trunk areas. I know a lot of people use sound dampening material for audio, so I figured this forum might have some useful advice for my situation.

Is there a specific material I should use to fill the space between the trim panels and the steel frame to reduce movement and noise?

I’ve looked into sound dampening materials, like polymer/aluminum sheets and thicker closed-cell foam, but I’m not sure if these are the best options for my needs.

Thanks for any help!

Closed-cell foam (CCF) is the right material for that. It works by decoupling the two pieces to reduce movement.

If the rattling is because something is loose, tightening it down will help. If the panels are coming apart, you could pull them off and apply some foam tape where they meet. That should reduce the noise a lot.

I’m sure you’ll get a lot of suggestions for Resonix here… but they do have a really helpful guide on their website for fixing stuff like this.
