I have a 2008 Yukon XL with a Kenwood DMX 7709S head unit, Kicker Solo subs, Rockford titanium components, and two Kicker amps. Everything was installed professionally about a year ago and worked perfectly until recently. Now, whenever I turn on the head unit, it just plays loud static through all the speakers no matter the audio source. The only way to stop it is by powering off the head unit. I’ve checked the grounds and RCA connections, everything seems fine, but I’m stuck. Any ideas?
Does the static stay the same volume all the time, or does it change with the volume control? Does it come from all the speakers, including the subwoofer? Was everything installed professionally? Do you have any pictures?
@Paxton
Yes, the static is always the same volume, can’t adjust it with the volume control. It comes out of all the speakers, including the subwoofer. The installation was professional and worked fine for about a year.
@Maxwell
You should take it back to the installers. Most good shops offer a lifetime warranty on labor, which should cover troubleshooting for free. Honestly, as an installer myself, I’d prefer if my customers didn’t try to fix it and just brought it to me. It sounds like your head unit might be the problem.
@Paxton
That’s the plan. I’m in Canada for work right now, though, and I have a 13-hour drive ahead of me with no tunes. I was hoping for a simple fix, but I guess I’m overlooking something.

You could use an RCA to 3.5mm adapter and plug your phone directly into the amp. Alternatively, you could use the ‘output’ RCA ports from one amp to send the signal to the other amp. If you can get your two front speakers and the sub working, you’ll at least have some music for that 13-hour drive!
