To get a good amp for it, I need to find out what name this is and what specs it has. Just now, someone told me it’s a 15" competition sub. My brother gave it to me a few years ago. But I want a newer/better one and want to make sure I get the right fit. It smacks hard with the 1500 planet audio amp that came with it. I was thinking about getting a 2000-watt stinger amp or an NVX 3000-watt. Please let me know what you think. Both mono block. The price difference isn’t that big. I’m pretty new, and I only put it together half-assed in my old car. Now that I have a new car, I want to have it properly installed and make sure it sounds good.To get a good amp for it, I need to find out what name this is and what specs it has. Hi-Fi Car Sound. They were developed and owned by Scott Atwell, who used to be a co-owner of RE Audio before it was bought out by a foreign company. The famous XXX line from RE was made by him. He and David Moore, who now owns PSI Car Audio and fixmyspeaker.com, worked together at RE Audio when things were going well. They then sold the business to foreigners who made a lot of money off of the name they had at the time. Of course, they got worse, but Fi and PSI were great. Scott Atwell is one of the two best subwoofer designers of the last 25 years, in my opinion. The same goes for Dan Wiggins and him.
Back in the day, I had a FI Q 10. I thought it sounded better than a Sundown sub I had been using for a while. It was supposed to be their best sounding sub. I found a cheap JLW6 and put it in my ride. Then I sold the Q. The JL was better at everything than the Q, but I think it needed a bigger box. I’m sure it will sound good.
Curious as I’ve haven’t heard that name, what subs does Dan Wiggins design?
He’s not just a great subwoofer designer; Wiggins is a great speaker designer all around. He has a lot of inventions. He came up with the idea for the dual-gap XBL2 motor. It looks like he still owns Adire Audio. One of the best subs ever made is the XBL2 Brahma.
PSI is used by EXO CONTRALTO, and they look like some powerful subs.
I don’t see anyone bringing it up, but don’t forget that Sky High Car Audio bought Fi Car Audio and is now run by Jon Rabe. Since then, they’ve made carbon fiber cone options public and released the Xv4 10" subwoofer series, which is huge for Fi fans who want 10s because they haven’t had them in a few years.
Fi Car Audio is a great brand, and Scott Atwell and his team will still be working there. Brian Owens, who was the previous manager, is a great person and it’s sad to see him go because he did a great job and is very smart. Andy Berning, who is the new manager, is also a great guy who seems to have a good history and knows his stuff. The company has a very bright future ahead of it, as they have been more active on social media now than ever before.
If you were ever thinking about switching to the Fi brand, now is a great time to do so because they are keeping all the old recones and SP4 recones are on the way. They are there for their customers.
In what part of the room is this subwoofer? I had one made in a color that wasn’t available at the time. This could be one that was made just for me eight or nine years ago. If it’s an open motor btl neo, it’s an old woofer of mine.
Fi, someone bought them out. They used to be really nice, but things have been weird for them over the last few years, so it hasn’t been great. Now that they’ve been bought out, it may be good for them. I guess we’ll find out.
But that submarine looks like it was made a long time ago.
