I’m looking for bullet cone speakers and also need recommendations for tweeters. They’ll be going into a Ford Explorer, and the tweeters should be 1.65 inches. Any suggestions?
Check out speakers with higher efficiency. A good option for loud and decent sound quality is the Polk DB series—they’re affordable too. If you just want something cheap and loud, Cerwin Vega XED series might work, but the sound quality isn’t great.
@Van
Make sure you’re not getting fooled by fake efficiency ratings. For example:
- “90 dB” on its own doesn’t tell you much. It could be accurate, or it might not be.
- “90 dB @ 1w/1m” is better because it provides more details you can verify. Typically, this is at 1kHz for midrange drivers.
- “90 dB @ 2.83V” can be misleading. 2.83V equals 1 watt into 8 ohms, so for a 4-ohm speaker, you’d need to subtract 3 dB to find the real sensitivity.
@Kavi
Exactly. It’s annoying when manufacturers use the 2.83V number for a 4-ohm speaker. It makes comparisons tricky unless you know what you’re looking at.
@Van
I’m planning to spend around $100-$200 for a pair.

In that range, I’d recommend the Polk DB series. They’re usually about $120 a pair. The Cerwin Vegas are cheaper, around $50 a pair, if you’re on a tighter budget.
You should check out DS18. They’re super loud, but the sound quality isn’t the best.
I’ve got higher-end Cerwin Vegas in my Honda Fit. They’re 6.5 inches and play really loud.
Look into Def Bonce Arnold Neo speakers. They’re solid.
