I’ve got an 02 Subaru Outback with a manual transmission, and I just had a Viper DS4VB remote start installed. I’m using the 7857V remote, but here’s the issue: when I go through the steps for manual transmission start, everything seems fine at first. But when I get out and lock the doors, the engine doesn’t shut off like it should. Instead, it acts like the car was remote started. The green remote start light stays on, and if I press it again, the engine turns off. After that, I can’t remote start it anymore. Am I messing something up, or is there a setup problem?
What steps are you following to do the setup?

Oh, forgot to include that earlier—my bad. Here’s what I do: Stop the car, make sure it’s in neutral, press the brake, set the parking brake, release the brake, hit the remote start button once, wait for the lights to finish flashing, turn the key off, and take it out (engine keeps running). Then I get out, shut the door, and lock it.

Yeah, that’s the right process. Sounds like the system might not be detecting the door opening and closing, so it’s not completing the sequence.

Got it, I’ll check into that. Thanks!
@Zariah
The system needs to register ignition and tach, then brake on, parking brake on, brake off, remote activation, key removal, door open/close, and lock signal. After that, the process should finish, and the engine will shut off. It could also be a settings issue, but that’s the default setup.
@Sai
Thanks again. The installer also mentioned I need to use the factory key fob to lock the car at the end, but that doesn’t work while the engine’s running. Could that be part of the issue?

Have you tried using the lock button on the Viper remote?
@Sai
I haven’t used the factory fob at all.

Alright, just making sure. You could test if the system is detecting the door properly. Open the door, then hit lock. If you hear a second beep after the lock sound, it means there’s an open zone (like a door). Not sure if this works if security isn’t programmed, though.
