Thinking about buying a new car... should I upgrade my sound system?

Hey everyone, I’m planning to sell my 06 Honda Civic and get a new car. Right now, I’ve got 2 JL W6 12’s with a 2000w Hifonics amp, and Polk audio components in the doors with a 400w Rockford Fosgate amp. This system’s about 10 years old now.

Do you think I should sell the system and upgrade? Has anything changed in the last 10 years? Someone told me I should keep the subs and just get a new amp. Are newer ‘premium’ sound systems any good, or should I change the car speakers too?

I think the best move is upgrading the Hifonics amp like you mentioned. There are plenty of great options available now, and power is cheaper these days.

Subs lose value over time. You won’t get much back from them. JL is a good brand though, so if it’s working fine, don’t worry about it. I agree with upgrading the amp. (I use a Hifonics 2500w, and it’s awesome, so take my advice with a grain of salt.)

Also, make sure your cables are OFC (Oxygen-Free Copper). Anything less won’t do.

Good call! OFC cables do make a big difference. Also, if you’re planning on sticking with the subs, the new amp will really bring them to life.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I’m leaning toward upgrading the amp and keeping the subs for now. I’ll look into getting some OFC cables as well.
