I don’t know anything about car sound systems or what’s needed for them. I’ve got a 2007 Rav4 with the JBL speaker setup. It sounded amazing—really loud and clear—but the bass was kind of weak.
Unfortunately, I blew out the lower door speakers recently. I’m looking to replace them with something similar or even better. Any recommendations?
If you liked the JBL system, you could try finding direct replacements for those speakers. Any aftermarket ones might not sound as loud. To fix the bass issue, just add a subwoofer—problem solved.
Most factory sound systems don’t have strong bass because they’re built to lower it at higher volumes to stop the speakers from getting damaged. That’s probably what happened to yours—they might even be made of paper. Replacing the speakers will help, but it won’t really fix the bass issue at high volume. You might want to add an aftermarket head unit. That would give your new speakers more power and better bass.
If you want to keep things simple, try to find the same speakers or ones that are very close. Take one out and check the wattage and ohms on the magnet, then find a pair online with the same specs. For subwoofers, you’ll need a few things: the subwoofers themselves, an amp, a wiring kit, and—if you still have the stock radio—a line output converter to connect the radio to the amp. It really depends on your budget.
