Need help picking an amplifier… anyone got advice?

I have two dual voice coil subs, and both are 4 ohms each. The recommended power is 400 watts for each sub. I’m looking at a 2000-watt monoblock amp that says the RMS will be 650 watts on 1 channel at 4 ohms. Will each sub get 650 watts?

The 650 watts will be split between the two subs, so each one will get 325 watts.

What if I wire my subs in parallel? Would they only need 800 watts then? The amp also says RMS is 1500 watts at a 1-ohm load.

What subs and amp are you looking at? It would help if we knew the exact models.

The subs are 12-inch Kickers, and the amp I’m considering is either the CT Sounds 1500 or 2000 model.

I’d recommend the CT1000.1D. It’s a 1000-watt RMS amp. Wire your subs to 1 ohm like you mentioned and set the gain with a multimeter.

Is that the best way to wire my subs? I’m pretty new to this, and I don’t understand all the details yet.

@Mal
Yeah, that’s how I’d do it. You should check out some YouTube videos on setting gains for amps that have more power than your subs. There’s a lot of stuff you’ll need to learn, but it’s worth it.
