I have a budget of 700 dollars. What should I get?

I have a total of 700 dollars max for everything from the box, wires, subs, amp, and whatever else is needed. I’ve seen some posts here that don’t seem to like Skar Audio, which is the only brand I know that makes budget subs and packages. I’d prefer to get two 12’s or 10’s if they offer better value since now I understand it’s not about the size but the drivers that matter for louder bass. Any suggestions on what to get? Thanks for your help!

I’d recommend waiting for tax sales, Black Friday, or New Year’s sales to save a lot of money. Also, check Facebook Marketplace for boxes and amps, you might find some great deals there.

I was thinking of doing that, but I’m not sure what to look for in terms of brands and quality. I’d also love some specific recommendations on subs and amps.

@Sloan
I can only speak for what I use – I have a Rockford P1 12” sub and a JL Audio amp. I love them (the sub is responsive, and the amp is easy to tune), but they’re a bit pricey. My box is custom built.

@Sloan
To give you an idea, my system cost $360 in total, including the wiring and wood for the box.

A pair of these would be a good option for you:

A decent cheap amp:

Wiring kit:

Box:

That will leave you with plenty of budget for any extra parts.

@Terry
Thanks for the suggestions! I’m curious, though, why a sealed box over a vented one? Would a vented box give louder sound, or will the two subs in a sealed box be loud enough while sounding better?

@Sloan
The sound quality depends on your preferences. I suggested a sealed box because most prefab boxes are tuned too high and don’t sound great. A ported box can sound amazing but usually needs to be custom-made for the best results. Personally, two decent 10s in a sealed box are plenty loud for me.

Check out a local shop for your setup.

I can vouch for the sub box. It’s not perfect, but it’s decent, especially in a pinch.

You could try Skar’s sub/Amp package on Amazon. I’ve had all kinds of brands, and the biggest difference is the price. Right now I have a Skar EVL 12 and RP1500 in my car, and a Kicker 1800.1 with Q series 12s in my truck. Both setups are great. For $700, you can get everything you need from Skar, and it will simplify the process for you since you’re new to car audio.
