Help needed… My car door and trim are a mess after the last owner

Hey everyone,

I just bought a used 2000 Subaru Liberty, and I’m running into some major issues with the audio system and door trim that the previous owner left behind.

I can handle the wiring problems (left and right channels are swapped, messy twist-and-tape wiring, and mismatched speakers). But the driver’s door card and frame have been completely butchered.

The door and card have been hacked apart to fit a 6x9 speaker, and the speaker is bolted straight into the door card. They wrapped the edges with electrical tape, and it’s a total mess. The door trim doesn’t clip into place anymore, random things like food wrappers and sponges are taped inside, and parts of the trim are superglued. Plus, the key can’t lock the door because the card is misaligned.

I’m stuck on how to fix this mess. Where do I even start? I’ll share pictures of the damage in the comments. Any advice is welcome, and thanks in advance for helping me out!

You could make your own door panel to replace it. It might take some time, but it could solve a lot of the problems.

Try heading to a junkyard to find stock door cards. That would give you a clean slate to work with.

If that’s not an option, you could use fiberglass to create custom door pods and fix up as many mounting tabs as you can while you’re at it.
