Had someone both JL and Rockford?

We want to know what you think if you’ve had both types of speakers and/or subwoofers.

The only brand that has ever really let me down is Rockford. I’ve had them a few times and really liked them.

I’ve heard great things about JL, but I haven’t tried it yet.

It’s fun for me to compare speaker specs at loudspeakerdatabase.com. I haven’t heard either of them in a while so I can’t give you good straight input. People like JL, though, because they have a low FS and play well in the high frequency range. The frequency response curves for a JL W3 and a Fosgate sub are shown below. You can see that the fosgate has a big peak, while the JL plays flat up to a high frequency. Low FS and flat frequency response into the upper bands are usually two things that can’t be had at the same time. You could say that the higher frequency response doesn’t mean as much if your low pass is set to 60 Hz and your midbass drivers are nice and loud.

I’ve had both. JL is the only way to go

A 10" sub in my truck runs on a 500w Rockford prime amp, which isn’t a fair payment, and a Rockford Power T2 13 in my daily driver runs on a Rockford 1,500. Even though both subs sound great, the expensive RF sounds much better than the JL sub. I would tell anyone to use either one, depending on their needs. A friend of mine has two w3 12s in his car, and they look great. I feel good saying that RF and JL are about the same; just look for the best deal.

I’ve been listening for a long time and the JL10W6 in the HO box is the best full case I’ve ever heard.

Running two JL w0v3 10s right now. I’ve used Rockford amps and subs before. Never had any trouble.

I’ve had both of them and everything else too. They are not the same. For example, Rockford is a reliable Honda, not a great car but far from bad, and JL is a Lexus, which is pretty much the best car for most people, unless you get into really expensive niche cars like Mosconi, hybrids, sound integ, etc.

If you divide the community into two groups—newschool sub bass fans and oldschool purists—I’d say JL is for the purists and Rockford is for the newschool fans, even though I think JL’s build quality and study are better.

A few years ago, I had a Rockford 12 and a Rockford amp in my car. Now I have a JL 12 and a JL amp. The Rockford 12 had two voice coils, while the other amp had about the same number of watts. It’s a close call for me. I like both
