Bought a subwoofer... Did I make a huge mistake?

I made a lot of mistakes when buying my subs and amp because I didn’t do my research. Now, I’m just trying to make the most of what I have. The bass sounds good at low frequencies but doesn’t hit as hard as other people’s setups on songs that should hit harder. Am I missing something in the tuning, or did I make a mistake with my underpowered subwoofers?

I know the combined RMS of the two subwoofers is 2000 watts, but I’m only running 800 watts at 2 ohms…

Here’s my setup:

  • Subs: 2 Skar audio DDX-12 dual 2-ohm
  • Amp: Skar audio RP-1200.1D
  • Box: Skar Dual 12" armor-coated

I have the subwoofers wired in series/parallel for a 2-ohm final load

Settings: Gain: 31.6 volts, LPF: 60hz, Subsonic: 25hz

Please be kind, I know I should have done more research before buying, but now I’m just trying to work with what I have. Thanks!

Try raising the LPF to around 80hz and see if this helps with the higher bass.

What are the specs of your Skar box? Type, volume, tuning, wall thickness, bracing? The box makes a huge difference with subs.

@West
I’ll try raising the LPF.
Box info:

  • Ported
  • Total volume: 3.70 cubic feet
  • Tuning frequency: 33hz
  • Port width: 2.40"
  • Wall thickness: 3/4" MDF

The airspace and low tuning seem good. The wall thickness should be fine for 800 watts. It doesn’t seem like the box is the issue. Have you tried changing the orientation of the box in your car? It might be harder in some cars, but if you can move it around, it could make a difference.
