I’ve got two Fi Audio MT 12s (dual 1 ohm voice coils). Had to wire them up quick and throw them in the car because I was low on time, but now I’m wondering if the wiring might be causing some issues. So here’s how it’s set up: they’re dual 1 ohm voice coils, amp wires are connected to the left box terminal, and from there, the wires go to one sub (red to + and black to -). Then, wires go from that same terminal to the second sub in the same way. They’re not wired one to the other — basically, it’s like there are two sets of + and - going from a mono amp to each sub. Can anyone figure out what my final load would be?
That’s a bit tricky to follow, but it sounds like you just wired the terminal to each subwoofer, without connecting to the second voice coil?

Yeah, sorry for the mess of words! So, starting at the box terminal, + and - go to one sub’s + and - and then from that terminal, wires go to the second sub’s + and -. Then, I wired the two + together and the two - together on each sub. Hope that makes more sense!

Alright, so all the positives are connected, and all the negatives are connected, right? Sounds like you’ve got yourself at 0.25 ohms.

Why can’t I find any diagrams on this setup? The amp’s going into protect mode at half power, so I thought maybe the impedance was off, higher or lower than what the amp could handle. It’s rated to 0.5 ohms, and it was fine running slightly lower RMS subs wired the same way, but those had 2 ohm voice coils.
@Vernon
Yeah, that’s the problem right there. Your load is 0.25 ohms, but your amp is only stable down to 0.5 ohms, so it’s struggling.

Got it. I’ll redo the wiring for sure.
Your old setup was probably 0.5 ohms, and diagrams for this kind of wiring should be pretty easy to find. You can set those subs up at 0.25, 1, or 4 ohms.

Looks like I should wire them to 1 ohm then, since the amp is only stable at 0.5.
Here’s a link to a diagram that might help: https://placehold.co/600x400.png

Each sub’s coils are wired + to + and - to - so my previous setup was holding at 0.5 ohms. But yeah, sounds like with these, I’m hitting 0.25 ohms, which the amp can’t handle.
