96 Camaro stereo keeps cutting out… what’s going on?

Hey everyone, I posted about this a few days ago, but now my stereo is acting up in a really strange way. I’ve got a new Sony stereo, a new Metra harness, and fresh fuses. I’ve also checked all the connections, and they seem solid. The problem? My stereo randomly shuts off and completely dies on me. The weird thing is, this also happened with my last JVC stereo using the same Metra harness. So now I’m wondering… could the issue be with the part the harness plugs into?Any advice would be awesome!

Not saying this is 100% the issue, but I’d try swapping the Metra harness. You seem to know what you’re doing, so it should be an easy test. The fact that it’s happened with both Sony and JVC makes me think that’s the common factor. If the issue keeps happening, try checking the main wires—power, ground, remote, etc. If you know how to depin and repin connectors, that might help too. Just go step by step and rule things out. Might not be the quickest fix, but you’ll get there!

The harness I bought was brand new, straight out of the box less than a week ago. Do you think it could still be bad?

Not necessarily bad, but maybe something happened to it—like a pinched or damaged wire. If you swap it and the problem goes away, then that was it.If you’re still stuck, a good shop might be worth checking out. I’ve met some really solid audio guys who love helping with stuff like this. Sometimes fresh eyes catch things you wouldn’t think of.
