2 x 500 watt 10" subs or 1 x 1500 watt 12" sub… Which is better?

I have a box with 2 Sundown Audio E10 subs rated at 500 watts each, and I’m thinking about switching to a Fi Audio Xv4 or DD audio 712f 12" sub rated at 1500 watts.

My amp is an Audio Apex CAB22. For the 10" subs, the amp is set to run at 1500 watts at 2 ohms. With a single 12" sub, I can run it at 2200 watts at 1 ohm.

Is it worth switching to the 12" sub, or should I stick with the 2 x 10" setup?

Whether you notice a big difference in output depends on the box you use. The 2 x 10" subs give you more cone area, but the Xv4 12" sub has almost double the Xmax, which could make a difference.

Why not go with a single 15" sub? It’s similar to 2 x 10" subs in surface area.

Why not try 2 x 12" subs? It’s a good balance between both setups.
